Star Mill to Hindostan Falls Boat Ramp
• 13 Miles | 6-8 Hours | Intermediate | Suggested Ages 8 & Up
Start your journey with our most popular voyage! Beginning at the historic Star Mill you will travel 13 miles along the East Fork of the White River to the Hindostan Falls Boat Ramp. Along the way, you’ll pass fascinating landmarks such as the Bluffs at Beaver Bend, Callahan Bluffs, and the infamous John Dillinger Hideout. In the 1930s, notorious bank robber John Dillinger and his gang used the East Fork of the White River in Shoals, Indiana, as a hiding spot while on the run from authorities. Dillinger, one of the most infamous criminals of the Great Depression, knew this rural area offered natural cover and seclusion as he evaded the law.
As you paddle, you might also spot the eagle’s nest just upstream from the SR 550 highway bridge, a prime location for birdwatchers. The sounds of the Hindostan Falls will guide you toward the end of your journey, and from there, a quick 10-minute taxi ride will bring you back to Star Mill.
